On Sunday, October 11, a dedication was held for a new sculpture at the Burlington Public Library, in honor of former member Barb Ludwig. Our mayor wrote these words for the dedication:
Today, was a tribute to Barb Ludwig. The main speakers were President of Burlington Garden Club Colleen Hueber, Past President of Burlington Garden Club Mary Cichochi, Barb’s son Atty Peter Ludwig and Joe Davies Director of the City of Burlington Library.
Barb was very active in our community and a friend to all.
She died of COVID-19 on April 10th, 2020. The first COVID-19 death recorded in Burlington. A shock wave went through the community of disbelief. Many heart-felt thoughts were made through social media and hundreds of cards to the family.
The Ludwig family and Burlington Area Garden Club worked together to bring this breathtaking
art creation to the library grounds. Gardening and reading were her passions.
She traveled the world even after her late husband Atty Kurt Ludwig passed on. She volunteered in the community, rode her bike and walked with friends. Loved to knit in between. She loved documenting family holidays and other memorable events. She never let up being active. Also enjoyed going to all Wisconsin Badger football home games.
Barb will live on with all the memories that individuals have of her and this gorgeous tribute that many will see entering the library.
Next year more landscaping will be planted to add to this area.
– Jeannie Hefty, Mayor of Burlington, WI
