Park Art at Wehmhoff

On August 4, 2024, the Burlington Area Garden Club and the Burlington Public Library hosted a special event in Wehmhoff Square next to the library to reveal art pieces from local artists placed in the park.

Joe Davies, the Burlington Public Library Director, helped kick off the event with the following speech:

As the director of our beloved library, it is my honor to stand before you as we celebrate something much larger than the beautiful art we are about to unveil—our community.

A community is more than just a collection of individuals living in proximity to each other. It is a tapestry woven from shared experiences, mutual support, and collective aspirations. It is in the parks where we gather, the libraries where we learn, and the art we create and appreciate that we find the essence of what binds us together.

Our park, nestled beside the library, is a perfect embodiment of this unity. The library stands as a beacon of knowledge and discovery, while the park offers a space for relaxation, play, and connection. Together, they form a cornerstone of our community life.

Art, in particular, has a unique way of reflecting and shaping our community. It tells our stories, captures our emotions, and immortalizes our shared values. These new artworks being officially unveiled today are a testament to our community spirit. They are a symbol of our unity, our creativity, and the beauty we find in the world and each other.

So let us take this moment to appreciate not just the art, but the community it represents. Let us remember that each of us plays a vital role in shaping the character and culture of our community. As we stand here today, let’s commit to continuing to foster a spirit of inclusivity, creativity, and collaboration.
Thank you to the artists and gardeners who have contributed by adding something new to this park, and who have been helping to beautify our library for years. And thank you to everyone who continues to contribute to the vibrant life of our community.
