Our Lehn Legacy Garden, established in 1992, was the one that started it all. Our club’s very first garden is a recreated garden typical of those found in Burlington in the late 1800s.

The following was what was read at the dedication of the Lehn Garden in 1994:
“Welcome to the dedication of the Legacy Garden. I’d like to thank all of you for coming to help celebrate this special day. Isn’t this fun? Ice cream, cake, and refreshments in a beautiful garden. This is a gardeners dream. Most of us do not take the time to “smell the roses.” We are always too busy planting them. We had a great time planning and planting this garden. All of our members were involved in one way or another. It takes many dedicated people to carry off a commitment of this size. To the members of The Burlington Area Garden Club I say many thanks to all of you for your hard work and support.
To the Burlington Historical Society, we say thank you for your encouragement and support. To Mr. Forrest Hoganson, I want to say a special thank you for being there when we called and needed something right away.
Back in October of 1992 when I announced that we would be looking for a community project for the garden club, Judy Stone approached me and said she had a wonderful idea for a community project. She suggested this property beside the museum. And what a great idea it was. Thanks Judy. !!!
Thanks to the expertise of Mr. Alvin Schvetz of Landscaping who drew a design for us and got us started.
This beautiful fence here once graced the Curry property at Brown’s Lake. Thanks to them our garden is now complete. Mrs. Clemence Curry is here today to join us in our celebration and I would like for you all to meet her.
And to Mr. Robert Wollmer we give credit for taking on the time consuming job of restoring that fence.
To all the many donors who supported us in our efforts we would like to say thank you and we have acknowledged them on this plaque.
We will be tending this garden for a while. If you are passing by, stop and say hello. If you have something of interest for the garden or a plant that has been in the area for sometime, please feel free to tell us about it. We hope the community will enjoy this garden for years to come. Thank you.”
